Local Flavor: Dinner with Saco Bay News publisher

SACO — Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center may host visitors from all over the country at its idyllic seashore campus at 7 Boardwalk Drive in Saco, but it remains rooted in the local community.

A few years ago, Ferry Beach started its community dinner series. Beginning in the fall, after the tourists leave and things quiet down a bit, the retreat center opens its doors to the community to join in good food and conversation.

The first community dinner this season is at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13., and the featured speaker is me, Saco Bay News Publisher Liz Gotthelf. I’ll be talking about my journey into digital publishing, how Saco Bay News has become an established news source and why community news needs local support.

The menu will tentatively include - grilled salmon with blueberry balsamic glaze, gluten free Seared chicken breast with mushroom sauce, parmesan risotto, gluten free and vegan roast squash with candied pepitas, quinoa with seasonal vegetables, baby kale and shaved fennel citrus salad, and watermelon feta jalapeño salad. Appetizers and desserts will be served as well.

The cost of the meal is $20, and children under 8-years-old eat free with the purchase of an adult meal. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 207-282-4489.
