Catface Café is opening today at 17 Alfred St. in Biddeford, the site of the former Part and Parcel cafe.

The name of the café, explained owners Krista Cole and Tyler VanScoy, is a nod to the area’s history in the logging industry.  A catface is a healed wound in a tree, so called because it looks like cat whiskers.

Catface Café is a sit-down café with about 30 seats, serving breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Friday and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Menu items include breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, salads with locally sourced greens, and pressed sandwiches like the Maine Crab BLT and the chopped cheese featuring Maine Family Farms beef.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a few special brunch items added on the menu: French toast bites with dolce de leche and jam, The Mainer, a blueberry popover with maple pastry cream and vanilla sugar, and the Rosemary Panna Cotta parfait with sesame granola and passion fruit puree. These items can be paired with a cup of Maine Coast Roast coffee or a specialty cocktail.

Cole also owns Gather restaurant in Yarmouth and Sur Lie restaurant in Portland. She said she grew up in a mill town and was drawn to Biddeford’s strong sense of community.

Catface Café is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  The kitchen is open until 2 p.m. on weekdays, with the café serving grab-and-go items from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Elda Closing

Bowman Brown, owner of Elda Restaurant, announced on Instagram the restaurant will be relocating from 14 Main St. in Biddeford to Portland. Brown did not specify a date or exact location for the new site.
