Local Flavor: Brickyard Hollow Brewing opens in Biddeford, Ziggi's in Saco offers peachy summer menu
Brickyard Hollow Brewing has expanded its reach with a new location in Biddeford.
The brewery and pizza restaurant was established seven years ago in Yarmouth, and now with the Biddeford opening has 10 locations from Ogunquit to Eustis.
“We’re so excited to come to Biddeford. It’s such a growing, robust community,” said Brickyard Hollow Brewing owner Brendon Medeiros.
The Biddeford restaurant is located right in the heart of Biddeford’s downtown in a former mill building at 180 Main St. Brickyard Hollow Brewing had a very busy soft opening earlier this week, said Medeiros, and now will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
The family-friendly restaurant will feature what Medeiros describes as “elevated comfort food,” with sandwiches, burgers, shareable appetizers, burgers, bowls, and craft pizza.
The pizza menu has unique options with combinations that may seem a bit unusual, but work really well together, said Medeiros. These include a capicola, pineapple and hot honey option and a pizza with Maine blueberries, roasted shallot, rosemary ricotta and lemon zest. For the less adventurous, there are the old standbys like pepperoni or cheese. Vegan and gluten-free pies are also available.
And of course, there’s the beer. Medeiros said Brickyard Hollow hired a new brewer last year who has really enhanced the quality of the beer. The beer menu is rotating, but there is always a full range of brews on tap including ales, IPAs, browns, lagers, and stouts.
Brickyard Hollow Brewing has indoor and outdoor seating. Live music is scheduled Friday and Saturday on the patio.
Peach Drinks at Ziggi’s
Summer is looking peachy at Ziggi’s Coffee. The Colorado-based coffee chain, which can be found locally at 1001 Portland Road in Saco, has launched a lineup of peach menu items that will be available through July 8. The launch coincides with a sweepstakes in partnership with the Palisade Peach Festival. Customers can enter for a chance to win a weekend getaway to Palisade, Colorado to attend the 56th annual Palisade Peach Festival.
I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary sampling of the peach menu items from the Saco coffee shop. My favorite was the Sparkling Peach Lemonade Boba, a light, refreshing drink that was a perfect way to cool off in this heatwave. The drink was made more fun by the addition of peach boba, little tapioca balls that pop when you chew them, adding a burst of flavor.
There was also the Peachy Energy infusion, a combination of peach, passion fruit, white chocolate and Ziggi’s energy drink. I don’t typically consume energy drinks, but this was creamy and sweet and fruity, and would be a good option for those who are fans of such drinks. The peach Mango Paradise Fresherz was a “lightly caffeinated” drink with peach and mango, topped with mango pieces. A nice way to get some caffeine on a hot day, without risking getting over caffeinated.
The star of the show, in my opinion, was the peach cobbler muffin top. The muffin top is typically the best part of the pastry, and this was no exception. It had just the right amount of peach flavor and the brown sugar and cinnamon crumble was the perfect complement to the soft pastry.
