Summer is a good time to get some barbecue, and fortunately, there are some good local options.

Ore Nell’s Barbecue, an established Texas-style barbecue joint in Kittery, this week opened its new location at 45 Franklin St., Biddeford. Menu items include brisket, St. Louis Ribs, pulled pork and barbecue tofu. You can read more about Ore Nell’s Barbecue here next week.

Go See Tyce BBQ was recently named the best Soul Food Restaurant in Maine by lovefood.com. Go See Tyce BBQ, 810 Portland Road, Saco, serves authentic Jamaican food with a focus on barbecue. Selections include jerk chicken and pork, oxtails, curried goat, beef brisket and rice and red beans.

August 6-12 is National Farmers’ Market week, a time set aside to celebrate the role farmers markets play in our nation’s food system. Locally, the Saco Farmers’ Market is open 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday and is located at the Saco Valley Shopping Center parking lot at 4 Scamman St.
