Libby Library to host virtual summer reading program

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Edith Belle Libby Memorial Library is hosting a virtual summer children’s reading program this summer.

The summer reading program will be on the library’s site on Beanstack, an app that parents can find in their app store to download to Android or Apple mobile devices. Parents register their children and then track the minutes the kids read. Children will earn badges and certificates through Beanstack and then bring the certificate to the library to earn buttons for the time that they read.

The Beanstack reading program will run from June 23 to Aug. 15, and parents can pre-register for the program on Beanstack beginning June 15. Children will earn badges for every 30 minutes logged and certificates for every 90 minutes. There will also be “hidden” badges.

Children who reach the 800 minutes by Aug. 15 will also receive a completion badge and certificate. Participants can leave a review for the books they read or draw a picture about a story that can be uploaded to Beanstack as well.
