King reelected to York County Sheriff position
York County Sheriff William “Bill” King has been reelected for a third term.
King, a Democrat from Saco, won in a 58,063 to 43,832 county-wide race against Republican Roger Hicks of Hollis, according to election data compiled by the Associated Press.
Locally, King won 5587 to 2646 in Biddeford, 6084 to 3140 in Saco, and 3116 to 1786 in Old Orchard Beach.
King, 68, has served as the York County Sheriff since 2014, and has worked at the Sheriff’s Office since 2010. He has more than 30 years of federal and municipal law enforcement experience, and is on the Maine Sheriffs’ Association Executive Board, where he’s served as vice-president since 2019. He is also a certified jail manager, a distinction held by two people in the state. Under his leadership, the York County Sheriff’s Office became MLEAP accredited, a distinction held by 13 other law enforcement agencies across the state.
In a response to a candidate questionnaire last month, King said if reelected, his top priorities would include addressing serious crimes in our communities, addressing traffic problems in our communities, continue to address the opioid crisis, working toward bringing the corrections division to full staff and striving to ensure wellness and resilience in the department’s workforce.
