SACO — Huot’s Seafood Restaurant will open this spring under new ownership, according to a local real estate agent.

Huot’s restaurant has been open since 1935 at 29 Eastern Ave. in the seaside community of Camp Ellis, serving up clam cakes, chowders, seafood dinners, and other coastal fare in the summer season. The restaurant last year went up for sale, and third-generation owner Denise Gelinas said in an interview last year that after working more than 40 years in the restaurant business, she wanted to look at other opportunities.

Since then, many locals as well as summer tourists who frequent the area have been wondering if the popular restaurant would open for the summer 2022 season.

Aaron Chadbourne of Demetria’s Team – The Real Estate Group announced on a live Facebook video on April 15 that the Huot’s Seafood Restaurant property had been sold. He said there were many people interested in the property, with several interested in building condominiums or homes on the property, but it was sold to someone who wanted the building to remain a restaurant.

Chadbourne said the restaurant will keep the Huot’s name and is on track to open by early May. The new owners have ties to Camp Ellis and have an experienced restaurant management team, he said.

“The new team is already hard at work getting it ready so that they can have a great opening later this spring,” said Chadbourne in the video.

The new owners were not able to be reached by phone and did not respond to an email inquiry by press time. According to the Huot’s Seafood Restaurant website, the restaurant is hiring.
