Funtown announces new attraction
SACO — For months, amusement park Funtown Splashtown USA has been teasing fans about a new attraction.
To those who have been anxiously waiting for the news, the word is out. The new attraction at the Route One amusement park will be a Haunted Hotel. The announcement was made on Facebook around noon Tuesday during a live video from the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers convention in Orlando, Florida.
The interactive ride will have a unique theme and storyline centered around an evil witch named Miss Lilith who has cast a spell on Funtown and cursed its new hotel.
The amusement ride was created by Sally Dark Rides in Jackson Florida.
“It’s going to be really a great ride. It’s fun, its scary, its entertaining. It has a lot of special effects in it, some animatronic characters such as the witch,” said Drew Hunter, vice president of creative design at Sally Dark Rides. “It’s going to be a real event because when you go through the haunted hotel, you’re going to try to eradicate the curse of the haunted hotel.”
Using a “curse eradicator,” guests will not only be tasked with getting rid of the curse, but will also have to rescue hotel guests who have been sucked into another dimension, said Hunter.
The Haunted House is set to debut in the 2023 season and will be located between the Wild Mouse and the antique car ride where an arcade used to be, according to the announcement.
