SACO — A Fort Fairfield man was arrested after a police chase and reportedly driving erratically through a construction site.

Saco police responded to a call of a report of an erratic driver on Industrial Park Road around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday.

According to police, a red Chevy pickup truck had driven through a construction site, running over numerous traffic cones, operating in the wrong lane, and almost striking a vehicle head-on. Workers from the construction site followed the truck, which pulled into a nearby business. Prior to police arriving, the operator of the pickup truck backed into one of the construction vehicles and fled the scene.

Police found the truck on Buxton Road and attempted to stop the vehicle. The pickup truck refused to stop and a chase ensued, according to police. The pickup truck traveled over Louden and Boom Roads, where police discontinued the chase.

Police placed spike mats on Boom Rd and the pickup truck ran over the spike mats deflating both driver’s side tires. The pickup truck continued and traveled into the city of Biddeford, spinning out at the intersection of Elm St and Pine St.

Police Officers from Saco and Biddeford took the operator Christopher Nelson, 38 years of age of Fort Fairfield, Maine, into custody.

Nelson was transported to the York County Jail and is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges with a July 24 court date, according to police.

As a result of this investigation, no persons were injured, and the incident is under further investigation, according to police.
