SACO — The Current Ward 4 City Councilor is up against a former mayor in the November election, while the current Ward 5 City Councilor is running unopposed for reelection.

Michael Burman was appointed to the City Council for the Ward 4 seat in December 2020, after Lynn Copeland vacated the position to serve as a State Representative. Burman is running for reelection against Don Pilon. Pilon served as mayor of Saco from 2013 to 2015, and also served four terms as a state representative.

Ward 4 includes coastal areas as well as neighborhoods along Ferry Road.

City Councilor Phil Hatch is running unopposed for the Ward 5 City Council seat.

The City of Saco has an elected mayor and seven elected City Councilors, with one councilor from each of the city’s wards.

Councilors must be residents and qualified voters of the ward they serve and must remain a resident of the ward throughout their term of office. City Councilors are elected for three-year staggered terms by voters in their ward.

Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Thornton Academy’s Linnell Gymnasium, 438 Main St.
