For Whom The Dinner Bell Tolls or Libby Lobster's Paranormal Adventure
I was making my way home from Libby Library in Old Orchard Beach with the latest novel by noted Sci-fi author, Xavier Xomblethorpe, about a post-apocalyptic survivors of a rhubarb bake-off gone horribly awry, when I noticed our mascot, Libby Lobster, making a great effort to avoid the newly formed dirt patch by the library.
I made my way over to the dirt patch to see if I could determine why Libby was going out of his way to avoid it.
“I wouldn’t go near it if I were you!” Libby shouted.
“Why are you avoiding this dirt patch?”
“It reminds me of a nightmare I just lived through.”
“Libby, it’s just dirt.”
“Have you ever read Stephen King’s Pet Sematary?”
“Yes, a few years ago.”
“Well, I had a similar experience, only it was with a cursed compost heap.”
“A CURSED compost heap!? I gotta hear this.”
“It started one night when I was visited by the ghosts of three Thanksgiving turkeys.”
“Did they show you your past, present, and future?”
“No. They just told me my herbed whitewall tire stuffing was terrible.”
“That stuffing is a near-death experience!”
“It’s not just that. Only a few weeks ago I was chased across three counties by a chicken cordon bleu sandwich!”
“That is frightening!!”
“Not as frightening as being threatened with damnation by a cheese omelet.”
“You were threatened by a cheese omelet!?”
“Well, I did use some rosemary past its shelf date.”
“I’d be very concerned if my breakfast showed signs of demonic possession, too.
You know what else is concerning, Libby? The number of invasive species here in Maine. You can find out more about this situation by attending our Invasive Species Investigation this Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. Emily Lancaster, PhD will be here to tell us about her research on invasive species, specifically marine creatures in Maine. She’ll be following up her presentation with this year’s Traveling Tide Pool Friends. Traveling Tide Pool Friends is a fun, informative program about the many and varied creatures that live in our local tide pools.”
“Some members of my musical group, The Tidepool Troubators, are starring in this year’s Tide Pool Friends program! Maybe we’ll do our latest song, “Let the Good Times Roll (Unless You’re a Lobster). It’ll be the first time anyone’s heard it as you can’t say ‘roll’ on lobster radio stations.”
“Libby, I’m really excited about these and many of the other entertaining, informative, and educational events we have coming up this Summer. Be sure to check out our website, ooblibrary.org, and our Facebook page for more information and updates!”
“…and check back here for more Libby Lobster adventures!!”
