First Parish Church in Saco will open its doors for Day of Service on Monday
SACO — First Parish Congregational Church UCC will once again open its doors to provide services to those in need on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The third Monday of January, which this year falls on Jan. 17, is observed as Martin Luther King Jr. Day in honor of the late civil rights leader. It is the only federal holiday designated as day of service, and people across the country are encouraged to take “a day on, not a day off” and volunteer in their community.
First Parish Congregational Church, located at 12 Beach St., will be hosting its 14th annual MLK Day of Service event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday. There will be free health screenings from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine students and free haircuts from local stylists volunteering their time. There will also be a large variety of free items including diapers, socks and underwear, soap and other toiletries, shoes and gently used winter clothes and blankets. A take-out lunch will also be available.
All those interested are welcome to come and make use of this opportunity. Social distancing protocols will be observed and attendees must wear face masks.
