OLD ORCHARD BEACH — A home has been deemed unhabitable after a fire Monday night in Ocean Park.

Firefighters responded to a report of a house fire around 9:45 p.m. Monday at 44 Colby Ave., in the Ocean Park community of Old Orchard Beach, said Old Orchard Beach Deputy Fire Chief Clifton Whitten.

When firefighters first arrived on the scene at Colby Avenue, they saw smoke coming from the back section of the home, said Whitten.

He said the occupant of the house was able to evacuate on their own and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters were on the scene until about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  Fire departments from Saco, Biddeford, Scarborough and Goodwins Mills assisted Old Orchard Beach firefighters, said Whitten.

The house is uninhabitable, according to the deputy fire chief. He said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious. The State Fire Marshal’s office was at the scene at 44 Colby Ave. today (Tuesday) to investigate.

According to online town records the home at 44 Colby Ave. is a one and a half story single family house built in 1920.
