Events in Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach slated to commemorate Memorial Day

Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day.

Memorial Day, held on the last Monday in May, is a national holiday honoring those who died while serving the military. Communities across the country hold events to commemorate the day.

Biddeford/Saco

The annual Biddeford/Saco Memorial Day Parade, organized by the Heart of Biddeford and local veterans groups, will begin with a brief opening ceremony at 9:55 a.m. on Monday on Main Street, Saco in front of Saco City Hall.

The parade will proceed down Main Street in Saco and continue on to Main Street in Biddeford, turning left onto Alfred Street and concluding in Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Alfred and Pool Street in Biddeford. The closing ceremony will occur at the park around 10:45 a.m.

Old Orchard Beach

Luminary Night will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park, 4 Heath St., Old Orchard Beach. Glowing luminarias will be lined up along the paths in the park to honor loved ones and veterans.

The annual Old Orchard Beach Memorial Day Parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday at the corner of Ballpark Way and E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard. It will  proceed down Saco Avenue., turn right onto Old Orchard Street, then left onto First Street, ending  at Veterans Memorial Park with a brief ceremony.

A flag-raising ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday at Veterans Memorial Park, 4 Heath St.
