Dyer Library to present Saco Mayor for story time
Saco Mayor Jodi MacPhail will be presenting story time at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 8 at the Dyer Library Children's Room to celebrate International Women's Day.
MacPhail made history this past November when she became Saco's first female mayor. She is a life-long resident of Saco and the daughter of a school librarian. Since holding office, MacPhail has been reading in local public schools and visiting with students in an effort to broaden the appeal of reading and developing an interest in books for school age children.
International Women's Day, observed annually on March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The first International Women’s Day took place in 1911 and the United Nations began honoring the event in 1975. This year’s theme of International Women’s Day, “Inspire Inclusion,” emphasizes the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society, according to the International Women’s Day website.
Friday’s event is free and open to the public. Dyer Library is located at 371 Main St., Saco. For more information, contact Dyer Library Children's Room Coordinator Brooke Palmer at 207-283-3861 or check out the Dyer Library and Saco Museum website at https://www.sacomuseum.org/ .
