BIDDEFORD— The final Biddeford ArtWalk of this year will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20.

This event is free and open to the public. Community members are invited to stroll along Main Street and Washington Street in downtown Biddeford and visit the many galleries and businesses that will have local art on display.

The Biddeford ArtWalk falls on the third Friday of the month from May through October, and is held by local community arts non-profit in collaboration with the City of Biddeford, downtown development group Heart of Biddeford and Common Roots Studio as well as other local businesses and organizations.

“We have all sorts of artists that come out with a variety of mediums. We see handmade pottery, abstract and contemporary paintings, home decor, jewelry, greeting cards, stickers and buttons, vintage clothing, herbal skin and body care, photography, macrame; the list goes on. At times there have been vendors who host interactive booths, from live drawings and portraits, to lino-cut printmaking,” said Sarah Lafortune, acting executive director of Engine. “It's always fun to walk around and explore each month's offerings!”

New to the ArtWalk this year, Washington Street is closed off to vehicles during the event to create more of a street fair atmosphere, with artists along the sidewalks, in venues, and inside businesses. Additionally, attendees and vendors are encouraged to wear costumes or use spooky décor this month, said Lafortune.

There are also a number of local restaurants, cafes, and breweries in the area that will be open during the event.

“This month’s ArtWalk will continue to feature creatives from all over Maine. For additional information on specifics, make sure to follow Engine on social media @enginebiddeford and @biddefordartwalk,” said Nick Blunier, owner of Common Roots Studio.

A map of the walk, including information about the places along the route, is available on Engine’s website under Biddeford ArtWalk, and information about food and beverage locations can be found in Heart of Biddeford’s Places Directory.
