Couture and cars: Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club fundraises with a flair for fashion
ARUNDEL — On Thursday many notable locals stepped away from their day job and on to the runway for the Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club’s Fashion Soiree.
Sixty models strutted their stuff, showcasing the best of local fashion amidst bright lights and classic cars at the Maine Classic Car Museum.
Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce + Industry Director Jim LaBelle modeled olive linen pants and a pullover long sleeve linen shirt from Wooven, a downtown Biddeford shop owned by Albert Duc Nhun and Ron Briggs that supports the work of traditional craft artisans in Vietnam and Laos.
“The fashion fundraiser will help our Rotary club continue to do good in the community. And it was especially fun to see the amazing designs created by all of our excellent local designers worn by a wide cross section of community members of all ages,” said LaBelle.
There were also selections from Dapper and Company, a downtown Biddeford purveyor of men’s apparel and accessories, as well as from Lucious Curves Boutique and Elegant Creation Bridal Studio in Biddeford and Nabos boutique in Saco. The Maine-made plant-based clothing designs of Suger, a local company created by Roxi Suger of Biddeford, were also featured.
Rotary Club of Biddeford-Saco President Brenda Pollock said fashion shows are popular fundraisers in other areas. She said with Biddeford such an up-and-coming area, she thought it was good timing to hold a fashion show featuring local designers and boutiques.
“It’s a fun event. I wanted to bring a little flair,” she said.
The Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club is a charitable service organization that meets at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Run of the Mill, 110 Main St., Saco.
