Common Roots Studio celebrated a reopening on May 17 with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce + Industry.

Common Roots Studio owner Nick Blunier received an economic recovery Hub Grant which allowed him to remodel the downtown Biddeford studio on Washington Street.

The grant also allowed Blunier to expand the space for visiting artists to display their works, allowing more creators an affordable option to showcase their art. Blunier also added some custom display structures that can move freely on wheels and maximize room at the studio.

“This creates a transformative space, allowing us to now hold small music events,” said Blunier.

In April, a jazz jam session was held and will now continue as a monthly event by Wanda Entertainment, and on June 1 a small brass showcase will be held featuring local music students.

Common Roots Studio’s reopening was held in conjunction with the Biddeford ArtWalk, a free event celebrating local artists held from 4 -8 p.m. the third Friday of the month from May to October at participating locations in downtown Biddeford.
