BIDDEFORD — Live theater is back at City Theater.

The first show of the season, “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” will run from July 23 to Aug. 1.

“The Marvelous Wonderettes," written and created by Roger Bean, is a cotton-candy colored, non-stop pop musical. The play takes the audience to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where they meet the Wonderettes – four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts and voices to match.

In the second act the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. The audience learns about their lives and loves as the girls present classic ‘50s and ‘60s pop songs including “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “I Only Want To Be With You” and “Wedding Bell Blues.”

City Theater is located at 205 Main St., in the city's downtown.

The folks at City Theater are excited to have the community back for live performances, and have taken efforts to meet Center for Disease Control guidelines for the safety of the audience and performers. A new ionization filtering unit was installed in the HVAC system, as well as a new UV light air filtering system in the lobby.

The new ticketing process will keep audiences at no more than 75 percent capacity with 6-foot distancing between parties. Masks will be required at all times when in the theater, and all standard social distancing etiquette will be in place.

Visit www.citytheater.org for a complete list of the theater’s COVID19 Protocols.

Those who purchased a City Theater Show coupon pack for the 2019-2020 season and have unused show coupons will be able to use the coupons for The Marvelous Wonderettes and for the regular 2021-2022 season. Contact the box office at boxoffice@citytheater.org with any questions.
