BIDDEFORD —  The city recently installed two public electric vehicle charging stations.

The charging stations are located at the Biddeford City Hall parking lot at the corner of Main and Adams streets, and at the Public Works building at 371 Hill St. Each charging station has two outlets.

The cost to charge a vehicle is 20 cents per kilowatt hour. Electric car owners who wish to use these charging stations can pay by registering for an account at Charge Point at  https://na.chargepoint.com/charge_point . Through the Charge Point website, electric car owners can find charging sites throughout the country and pay with their account.

In November, the city approved spending $38,900 to purchase the two charging stations. In September, two months prior to the vote, the city acquired two electric vehicles – a Hyundai Ionics and a Hyundai Kona- under a free, three-year lease through Efficiency Maine’s enhanced rebates and the EV Accelerator Program.
