SACO — Janette Johnson, owner of The Spa at Saco Mills, has strived to create a relaxing environment for customers.

“When you come through the door, there’s no more thinking. When you come here, you do nothing but relax,” she said during a tour of her business at a recent ribbon cutting with the Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce + Industry.

The sanctuary, which is what Johnson calls the waiting area, is decorated in soothing earth tones with comfortable seating. Guests can relax here while they wait for their appointment and enjoy spa snacks or a cup of tea.

The Spa at Saco Mills offers many services including hot stone, lymphatic drainage, sports recovery and couples massages, facials, and body wraps.

Services are performed in candle-lit rooms. Each room is set up a bit differently, and one even has a swing.

“When you sit in a swing as an adult you become carefree. It just brings out your inner child,” said Johnson.

Scents used are mild, not overpowering, and include those like chocolate that evoke happy thoughts.

Johnson sells Farmhouse Fresh body products. She said she likes the company because not only are its products made with 100 percent natural ingredients, but it also donates a percentage of its profits to animal rescue missions. Johnson, who adopted a rescue Husky, said helping animals is a passion of hers, and the Spa at Saco Mills makes a donation each month to an animal shelter.

The Spa at Saco Mills is located at 110 Main St., on Saco Island.
