Carlow beats Mendros in Republican House District 16 primary

SACO — Republican Nathan Carlow will face Democrat David Durrell in the November election for State House District 16.

Carlow beat fellow Republican Stavros Mendros 457 to 334 in Tuesday’s Republican primary. Maine House District 16 represents Hollis, parts of Buxton and part of Saco. Carlow beat Mendros in Saco 8 to 11 and in Buxton 261 to 73. Mendros bested Carlow in Hollis 253 to 185.

Carlow, 21, of Buxton is a student University of Southern Maine, studying political science. He is serving his second term on the MSAD 6 School Board.

In a pre-election interview, Carlow said if elected, he would bring a fresh perspective to Augusta and would like to see more young people get involved in state government and conservative issues. He said he would like to see smaller government and fewer taxes.
