The Pi Guy strikes again! Biddeford High School math teacher Jon Jacques has recorded a parody song in celebration of Pi Day.

Pi Day commemorates Pi, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is celebrated on March 14, as the numbers 3, 1 and 4 represent 3.14, the first three digits of pi.

Nearly every year since 2007, Jacques has commemorated Pi Day by writing and recording a parody song. His parodies over the years have included “I Learned About the Number Pi,” sung to the tune of “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” by Marvin Gaye, and “Pi Hopes,” sung to the tune of “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco.

This year, Jacques has written“1000 Tries,” a parody of the Vanessa Carlton song “A Thousand Miles.” The song tells the story of a student who memorizes Pi while studying for an exam, and receives an A on the test.

“if I could learn all about pi

Do you think I could memorize

cause you know I need 1000 tries

If I could just learn pi tonight”

A video of the “1000 Tries” has been published on YouTube. It features student actors and animation made with Desmos, an online graphing calculator. The Biddeford High School choral class provided the vocals.

Jacques said he wrote the first Pi Day song in 2007 on the spot when a student mentioned it was Pi Day. He and the students enjoyed it so much, he has made it a tradition.
