OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Incumbent Regional School Unit 23 board member Sally Beatty is facing competition from Barbara Roberge.

RSU 23 oversees schools in Old Orchard Beach. School board terms are three years.

Beatty said if re-elected, her top goals would be to keep the town’s schools safe and support all students.

“I believe deeply in the importance of a strong positive education experience. It is important to prepare students for long term success in the classroom and in life. This requires an understanding of the education system, strong leadership, and a clear vision of the future. I want to make our schools both excellent and affordable,” she said.

Roberge said if elected, one of her top goals is to be a conduit for the concerns and interests of teachers, parents and community members.

“A priority is ensuring all stakeholders have a voice in making educational decisions. I believe effective board oversight of our schools should be informed through the participation of school staff as well as OOB citizens,” she said.

Three Old Orchard Beach Town Councilors - Kenneth Blow, Shawn O’Neill and Michael Tousignant – are running unopposed for reelection. Town Council terms are two years.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the gymnasium at Old Orchard Beach High School, 40 E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard.
