BIDDEFORD — Bagels don’t often come to mind when you think
about Maine cuisine, so when a good bagel shop opens up, people tend to grow
attached.

And when a good bagel shop leaves, it’s a sad day. Many local bagel aficionados can still remember the overwhelming sorrow they felt when in December 2019, Rover Bagel closed its Elm Street shop.

Well, happy days are here again. Rover Bagel is back. There have been whispers on social media for the past few months of the beloved bagel shop reopening, and now those whispers have turned into cries of joy.

Rover Bagel announced a soft opening on social media on Wednesday at its new location at 10 West Point Lane, and owner Kim Rutter confirmed in an email that the bagel shop has now reopened for good. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, said Rutter.

Rover Bagel features bagels that are handmade and wood fired. The dense, chewy, fresh-made product has a toasty sheen, earning the shop’s catch phrase “Looks burnt, tastes great!”

It’s safe to say that people are excited, based on the 255 “likes,” “loves,” and “wows,” 84 comments and 56 shares Wednesday’s Facebook announcement received.

“My day has been made,” said one fan.

“Congratulations. Order placed and we are doing a happy dance,” said another.

Rover Bagel will be taking orders online at www.roverbagel.com, and customers can get their food to-go at an outdoor pickup window.

The menu is similar to the menu at the former location, and features a variety of flavors of bagels and cream cheese as well as sandwiches, vegetarian options, coffee and sweet treats like sticky buns.
