Biddeford police say they are in the process of investigating an alleged armed robbery that took place shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday at Nibblesford, a gourmet cheese shop on Washington Street.

According to an audio police dispatch that was posted on a social media page known as Biddeford’s Neighborhood Watch, a lone male entered the downtown store, assaulted the clerk and pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the clerk.

The suspect was described as a man in his 50s, approximately six feet tall. He was reportedly wearing a mask and locked the employee in a back room at the store before fleeing the scene.

Police were still at the scene on Washington Street more than three hours after the alleged robbery.

According to Corporal Anthony Ciampi of the Biddeford Police Department, the incident remains under investigation.

Ciampi said more details could not be released in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation. He did say, however, that no one was seriously injured during the incident. He also said there is no danger to the public.

This story will be updated as more details can be confirmed with police.
