Apple Cinemas open in Saco and Westbrook
SACO — Cinema fans can once again watch movies on the big screen locally. Apple Cinemas has opened in the former Cinemagic locations in Saco and Westbrook.
In February, Zyacorp announced it was closing its chain of
Cinemagic movie theaters, which included cinemas in Saco and Westbrook.
In July, Key Point Partners announced it had negotiated a
lease with Apple Cinemas, and the Massachusetts-based company would be taking
over former Cinemagic theaters in Saco and Westbrook as well as in Hookset, New
Hampshire and Merrimack, New Hampshire.
A representative from Apple Cinemas confirmed in an email
that the two southern Maine theaters were opening today, but did not respond to
further questions by press time.
The Saco theater, located at 779 Portland Road (Route One) appears
to be having a soft opening. According to the cinema’s website, three movies
are currently being shown.
In addition to Maine and New Hampshire, Apple Cinemas has locations
in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. When opening new theaters, the company
focuses on converting existing cinema space, according to the July press
release from Key Point Partners.
