Accident on Maine Turnpike Saturday involved woman out on bail for OUI
WELLS — An alleged drunk driver involved in a turnpike accident on Saturday night was on bail for a prior operating under the influence case.
Maine State Police responded to reports at 6 p.m. Saturday of a car traveling northbound in the southbound lane at mile marker 22 in Wells on the Maine Turnpike, according to a press release from Shannon Moss, public information officer with Maine Department of Public Safety.
The vehicle traveling in the wrong direction, a gray Subaru, went to the southbound Kennebunk Service Plaza where it struck a white BMW sedan head-on, said Moss. Another southbound motorist in a Hyundi SUV then hit the disabled BMW, said Moss.
Witnesses told police that the driver of the Subaru attempted to conduct a U-turn on the turnpike and the car became disabled in the southbound service plaza. The driver was 45-year-old Charity Reynolds of Virginia, said Moss.
Those involved in the crashes had only minor injuries, and no one had to be taken to the hospital, said Moss.
Reynolds, who was already on bail for OUI, was charged with violating conditions of release, operating under the influence of alcohol, and driving to endanger, said Moss. She was summonsed and will appear in court at a later date.
The Maine State Police Department was assisted by Arundel, Biddeford, and West Kennebunk Fire Departments.
